Rico Gets Back on Track | CAS

My name is Rico.

I'm a 26-year-old Latino male. I have been incarcerated for five years. I’m trying to get my life back on track and it is hard and stressful. Sometimes when I'm out with my friends drinking and having a good time I don't always think to put a condom on. I don't like the feel of condoms and I don't want to kill the mood. 

I recently attended a group called VOICES (Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer Sex) that Community Access Services was running at the halfway house where I stay. I didn't realize how much risk I was putting my body in by not wearing a condom. The group had a lot of helpful information like: 

  • Condom negotiation with sexual partners 
  • HIV prevention 
  • How STI's are spread
  • Free condoms and lube

I was also able to get tested for HIV and HCV for free, and I had both test results in 20 minutes.
