Rico Gets Back on Track | CAS

Role_Model_Rico.png

My name is Rico.

I'm a 26-year-old Latino male. I have been incarcerated for five years. Iā€™m trying to get my life back on track and it is hard and stressful. Sometimes when I'm out with my friends drinking and having a good time I don't always think to put a condom on. I don't like the feel of condoms and I don't want to kill the mood.

I recently attended a group called VOICES (Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer Sex) that Community Access Services was running at the halfway house where I stay. I didn't realize how much risk I was putting my body in by not wearing a condom. The group had a lot of helpful information like:

  • Condom negotiation with sexual partners
  • HIV prevention
  • How STI's are spread
  • Free condoms and lube

I was also able to get tested for HIV and HCV for free, and I had both test results in 20 minutes.
